Modern way of life that made people spend more time indoors combined with the fact that indoor environments are by far more contaminated than outdoors have the consequence of drastic increase of allergies, respiratory diseases, asthma being most predominant and multiple other adverse effects on human health.
Average North American person spends around 22 hours daily indoors, making us more dependable on materials used to build and furbish our homes and offices, the manner in which they are constructed and maintained, and on HVAC systems supplying the air we breathe.
Flaws in any of these processes could affect our wellbeing and cause at least discomfort and in some cases acute or chronic effects. In last 20 years there has been a 75% increase in population suffering from asthma and one in four individuals are susceptible to some kind of allergens. Causes range from chemical, biological, fungal, bacterial and mechanical and come in all kind of shapes and states. Unfortunately children and elderly are the most vulnerable categories of population.
Technology advancement and introduction of new, more efficient and effective materials are making buildings more air tight and energy efficient, but at the same time more sensitive to any flaws or deficiencies.
For that reason more attention is required to maintain healthy and well balanced environment.
